I have some scrapbooking fun today. I made these altered gallon paint cans. The top photo holds my snacks as I go to scrapbooking crops. I can also use it as a trash can if needed to hold my scraps, hence the name scraps and Snacks. The bottom photo shows my prize pail. I use it to hold small prizes or to hold names when we do drawings.

I don't always talk about my basket classes, but I really wanted to this morning. It was such a nice group of ladies. We talked and laughed and laughed some more. I just woke up with a smile on my face and it is wonderful to know that I have such special people in my life. I really wish I'd have taken a picture of last night, but I didn't. Even though I'm teaching and they are weaving, I get so much from the class in other ways that it just lifts me up.
I hope everyone who reads this blog has an absolutely fantastic day today.

With my New Year's resolution of 'Keeping Ahead of the Game', I have been focusing on being a keeper of the home. I want my home to be an extension of my personality. I want all who enter to feel comfort and love and I hope you all don't mind if I share from time to time ways in which I try to achieve this. Keep ahead of the game basically is like the scout motto of "be prepared." I try to keep ahead of the game when it comes to things such as meal planning, or holidays or other special events. It drives me nuts to be rushing around at the last minute trying to complete a project or find a lost item such as car keys. I really want to do weekly meal planning and try to limit my trips to the store to only once a week. No more do I want to start cooking a recipe to find I need to rush out and buy a key ingredient before supper can be completed.
Every month I try to really deep clean one area of my home. During this January I've been focusing on my kitchen. I've completely emptied my pantry and scrubbed it clean. I've also cleaned above my kitchen cabinets when I took the Christmas decorations down. Now I am working on deep cleaning inside all my cabinets and drawers. It sure is good with each shelf I clean to see it looking fresh. It hasn't been so overwhelming to deep clean the entire kitchen knowing that I have allotted myself an entire month. I've used baskets in my pantry and in the cabinet to store little loose items. It looks pretty and the clutter is gone.
I'd like to challenge you to one room of deep cleaning and decluttering during the month of January. Feel free to post your accomplishments in my comments. If you have a blog, I'd love to know about it and stop by.
By the way, the the blessings journal covering in the photo above is one I made with scrapbooking paper scraps. It is a calendar and I try to write at least one blessing in it each day. It helps remind me of all the wonderful gifts our God has given me and to remember and always put Him first.

What I didn't tell you yesterday is that I actually got 3 blue ribbons. I entered this scrapbook page into the fair as well and it received a blue. 3 for 3!!!! This really was a fun experience. Even the kid enjoyed seeing their mother's items on display. They want to enter things next year, and they should! I think we are going to make this a yearly family event.

I've been spending quite a bit of time in prayer and thought about my life's passions and the next direction for my life. The children are all well into school with the youngest now being in middle school. It won't be too many years now before the children leave the nest and then where will I be. What will I do with my time.
I've been so blessed to be a stay at home mom and have given many hours of devotion to my children and husband. I now feel I am at a time in my life where I can begin a focus outside of my family.
What I have reflected on so much is that I want to start my own business. I still don't have clear direction as to what business I will start, but I feel now is the time for the seeds to be planted in this venture. Some of the seeds may not yield, but hopefully I will be able to produce a fruitful harvest in time.
Much of my reflection and prayer in regards to this has been focused on what my passion is. I have come to having a list of things I truly want in my life with regards to having a business.
First and foremost, I want God to be the foundation for whatever business I end up with. I want my business to help people in some way.
I want to be able to keep family as a priority. This may mean that I need my business to be flexible as well as portable where I can take it with me.
I need learning in my life. Well, I've never really had my own business except for doing home parties for Leaving Prints but that hardly counts. I have taught many basket weaving classes and I started, with the help of a dear friend Connie, the basket weaving guild Basket Weavers on the Prairie. Again, that hardly really counts for my own business, but it was a start for me. Therefore, this whole business thing is going to be one big learning adventure. I never want to stop learning and using my mind.
I really enjoy the following: teaching, creativity, traveling, adventure, nature, color...
This is the point where I get to be at a standstill as to what can I do with the things I enjoy. I do know one thing, I need to break out of my routine and get out of the house. I don't know if my business will be something I invent or create, or will it be a service for others. I just know I need to start something now, no matter how small and even if it is not the perfect seed for this venture. I need to plant one seed now. I have plenty of time to nurture that seed or to plant many others and plenty of time to raise those healthy seeds. I must start today. I am starting today.
